Parkrun #24: Windy Nook

YESSSSS! It's not often I come away from a parkrun with a time only just under 28 minutes (to be confirmed) and feel elated, but today is one such day. Finally bit the bullet today and attended Windy Nook , reputed to be one of the hardest parkruns in the area, wi– Sorry, I'll have to pause this blog post. My time's just come in on SMS and it's a 27:48. Woohoo! 😁 Anyway, as I was saying, Windy Nook is a parkrun with a reputation for being a bit of a killer. So, I was actually more concerned that I'd get a time in the 29's and at least be getting my worst parkrun to date, especially considering I'd been struggling to get under 28:30 during the week. Parkrun #27: Riverside (cheat mode enabled)

So, I did neither Newbiggin nor Rising Sun in the end, instead opting for a 4th new venue of the year. The Riverside parkrun is set in the park that's alongside the cricket ground in Chester-le-Street and, as you might guess from the name, it's pretty flat. Hence the title of this post; going somewhere this flat just feels like cheating. At least when it comes to chasing a PB, that is. Was really nice to see that the council supported Parkrun enough to erect a big course sign And my time? 25:04! O...M...G. 😮 At the time of writing the first paragraph in this post, I still didn't have my time, btw. I'd overheard a lady who'd finished a step or two behind me telling her partner that she'd run 8-minute miles, so I knew I was looking at a PB. Parkrun #54: Fountains Abbey, run 1

After having to cut short a first visit to Fountains Abbey last year, I was very keen to get back and I finally managed it almost exactly a year later. This Father's Day weekend, I'd booked a weekend away (timing was coincidental, not intentional) in Nidderdale , within easy reach of the National Trust venue... and this time, I'd been sneaky enough to ensure we were there on a Saturday morning. Having checked the route online, I knew I'd get to see both over the course of the 5K, and from all angles.
