Choosing a 10K event for 2024

Don't want to leave it too long before I get a 10K in, not least so that I can add a stretch goal of another 10K. So, it's time to get looking again — and to stop hoping I'll get into the North Tyneside 10K somehow.

Searching on findarace.com, one in Hamsterley Forest in March came up. I figure the 4 weeks from that to the Allendale Challenge gives me enough time to recover from the inevitable injury. (After last weekend's heather running, I'm pretty much assuming I'll come away with some kind of issue from a run in hilly forests. 😂)

Hamsterley Forest looks uncharacteristically flat here

Switching to searching on SiEntries.com, the following two intriguing options came up:

Basic idea here is that it's night-time trail running, using a head torch. Once upon a time, I actually owned a head torch (lord knows why), but I suspect it's no longer in my possession/loft. Regardless, running at night sounds very cool. Consider me interested, though they're both pretty late in the year. Maybe they'd do for the stretch goal.

I'd expect the atmosphere for this is pretty amazing

Maybe I should just get myself signed up and committed to both the Hamsterley run in March and maybe the Blanchland run later this year. They both look way more interesting than a simple road race. Time to check with the wife... 😄

  1. Aaaaargh. I would love to do the Gateshead Trail 10K -- it sounds right up my street -- but I see it's on the wife's birthday weekend. Me doing something selfish that Saturday, and obsessing about it in the run-up, is probably not the best recipe for marital harmony. Maybe another year... if they move the date a bit.
